Image ratio matters more than a single pixel count. Choose the shape that matches where the image will appear, then let the tool export a correctly sized PNG.
The three useful starting ratios
1:1 square
Square images are compact and adaptable. Use one when the same graphic needs to work across several feed-like placements or when your subject is naturally centered.
4:5 portrait
Portrait gives an image more presence while scrolling and leaves useful room for a border or short text. It is often the best first choice for a feed post designed mainly for phones.
9:16 vertical
Vertical fills a phone screen and suits story-style placements. Keep essential content away from the outer edges, where a platform may add buttons, captions, or account information.
Choose based on placement, not habit
Start with the channel where the image matters most. A square is easy to reuse, a portrait uses more feed space, and a vertical image is built for full-screen viewing. When several placements are equally important, export all three and review each crop.
Protect important content
Keep faces, logos, and small text inside the visible safe area. Use contain mode when the whole original must remain visible, or cover mode when filling the frame matters more than preserving every edge.
